Hamburgers
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. ground meat (ground beef or ground turkey)
- Half a medium-sized yellow onion, chopped
- A half dozen mushrooms, cleaned and chopped
- Parsley leaves, to taste
- ½ cup old-fashioned rolled outs
- 1 raw egg
- A dollop of ketchup (about a Tbsp.)
- Hamburger buns or sliced bread that is strong enough to hold the cooked burgers
- Cheese slices to put on hamburgers while they cook or after they have cooked (optional)
- Lettuce leaves to put on hamburgers once cooked (optional)
- Onion slices to put on hamburgers once cooked (optional)
- Tomato slices to put on hamburgers once cooked (optional)
- Whatever condiments are desired for serving: ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, etc.
Directions:
- Thoroughly mix ground meat, chopped onion, chopped mushrooms, parsley leaves, oats, egg, and ketchup. This is easily done in a mixer. If a mixer is not available, this can be done using bare hands.
- Form mixture into patties of desired size and shape.
- Patties can be cooked in a skillet or on a grill. Grilling can be difficult if the patties stick to the grill, because they can break apart. Some people cook them on foil to avoid this problem. In any case, make sure to clean the grill grate before grilling. Some people recommend freezing the patties before grilling and flipping them soon so that they quickly get a cooked outer surface that helps hold them together.
- If it is desired to put cheese slices on patties to make cheeseburgers, remember to cook the patties on one side first and then flip them before putting on the cheese slices.
- Cook to desired doneness.
- Serve on hamburger buns or bread with lettuce leaves and/or onion and/or tomato slices and desired condiments.
