PRESCOTT BEHN
ABSTRACT OIL PAINTINGS

SELECTED WORK, 1997 - 2011

I have been an amateur painter since ny college days (class of ‘52). My primary interest has always been in abstraction, influenced by studies in architecture, my southwestern roots, and my keen interest in the early 20th century modernists. After retiring from a business career in 1995, my involvement in painting steadily increased, and in 2004 I began to sell my work.

Abstract painting has few limitations, which is just fine with me. But each painting has its own style and logic, which present very tough rules and limits. These I try to discover and use even as the painting seems to have a willfulness of its own. The outcome seldom emerges as planned, but is often satisfying anyway. I consider a painting successful if it satisfies me over an extended period of time, and is not just a crowd pleaser.

The display that follows shows selected work from 1997 to the present. All paintings were done in oils, and most of them have already found an owner. Some of the more recent ones, however, are still for sale and are marked with an asterisk. Your inquiries are invited.
